BUCS Match Day 6

First Team

Result: 4-1 win vs Bournemouth 1s.

‘Wednesday we faced Bournemouth 1s for the second time this season where we looked to continue our good form shown at UWE last week. With a 7pm kick off under the lights at Coombe Dingle and a decent showing of support from club members and family & friends it had the potential of a thrilling match. The match began with Bristol dominating possession and creating a few chances, with Gale coming close at the back post after a cross from Pagano and Femiola with a near miss over the top right hand corner. We continued to apply the pressure and after Femiola was pulled back in the box, Hinksy converted the penalty in style to see us take the lead. With Bournemouth struggling to create chances the half ended 1-0. After coming back out the story was much the same. We managed to double the lead after a run from Gale down the left who cuts it back to Haire on the edge of the box and it ends up on the bottom left corner. Bristol were now starting to enjoy it and the third and fourth goals came quickly through big Bertie and Femiola respectively. Bournemouth do manage to get a consolation goal through a free kick from the touch line as Willis forgets how to defend momentarily. Man of the match was Toby Femiola who had their defence on toast and really grew into the game in the second half. We look forward to our first cup match next week where we face Bath 2s for the second time this season in another fixture under the lights at Coombe Dingle at 7:30pm’.

Next week: Bath 2s Home (Cup).

Will Gale (1s Captain)

Second Team

Result: 1-3 Win vs Bournemouth 2s.

‘Bournemouth is never an easy place to go and get points but we managed to go there and take all three. On a shocking pitch we played them off the park for the first 20 and found ourselves 3-0 up thanks to a goal from Roberto and two from Felix Hannam. However our dominance did not continue and Bournemouth’s long ball tactic on a small pitch started to work as they created a few openings. A combination of good defending and great goalkeeping seemed to be keeping them at bay until a dubious handball decision have their captain the chance to pull one back from the spot. Being the great bloke he was, he decided to smash it over the bar as it should never have been a pen. Bournemouth continued to press and only the greatest save I have ever seen from Edwards kept the score at 3-0 as we went into the break. The second half carried on in the same vain and eventually they managed to squeeze the ball into the net. Just a few minutes later smithy decided to clatter their winger for no apparent reason to give them a second pen. At such a key moment in the game, their skipper bottled taking a second pen but that didn’t matter, Edwards saved it anyway. We saw the game out fairly comfortably from there. Man of the Match: Henry Edwards’.

Next week: Gloucester 1s Home (Cup).

Adam Blades (2s Captain)

Third Team

Result: 3-3 Draw vs Southampton Solent 1s.

‘After a piledriver from robbo to put us ahead we then wen on to score 2 more to lead 3-0 with 20 minutes to go. All was looking fine until they brought on the biggest lad I have ever seen in my life who proceeded to hold the ball and they got 3. Crisis curry inbound’.
