BUCS Match Day 5

First Team

Result: 0-2 Win vs UWE 1s.

‘On Wednesday we made the trip across Bristol to face UWE 1s at Lockleaze sports centre. We were looking to bounce back from a disappointing result against Southampton the week before where we felt we deserved more from the match. The match began with us seeing lots of the ball, with Gale and Pagano looking dangerous on the wing, with them both having opportunities to assist Femiola in attack. After continual pressure, Bertie converts a floated corner kick from Haire which puts us 1-0 up, however this probably should have been 2 or 3 by this point. Going in at 1-0 at half time, we knew the next goal was crucial. The second half started with a stronger start from UWE who managed to get in between the lines and pose a more attacking threat. However our defence stood strong with a solid performance from Gabe Smith in particular. We managed to convert a second after a fortunate deflection from Pagano fell to the feet of Hinks who plays a one-two with the post before eventually smashing home. Overall, a much more positive performance from Bristol with good intensity levels from the outset and receiving a very well deserved 3 points at a difficult place to go. Man of the match was Samuele Pagano who was a threat on the wing all match, causing their full back all sorts of problems. #MindTheGap’.

Next week: Bournemouth 1s Home.

Will Gale (1s Captain)

Second Team

Result: 1-3 Win vs Exeter 3s (Cup).

‘Following a comfortable first victory of the season last week against Solent, the 2s turned their attention to the cup where they competently dispatched Exeter 3s on a shocking pitch. The first 20 minutes were fairly even with both keepers making decent stops to keep it goalless. That was until Connor Smith sent a curling, dipping strike into the top corner-the great goal was only to be ruined by the awful knee slide which followed. From here on in we dominated the game, Exeter barely got a kick. Cian Whyte calmly doubled the lead from close range after a clever free kick routine and it looked a question of how many from then on. Then from absolutely no where Exeter got a goal back and they thought they were back in it. Alas not. Almost immediately the two goal lead was restored as Felix Hannam tapped the ball after the skipper yet again failed to convert a golden opportunity. The last 20 minutes as a game of keep ball and then the final whistle sounded to send us through. Man of the Match: Connor Smith’.

Next week: Bournemouth 2s Away.

Adam Blades (2s Captain)

Third Team

Result: 2-0 Loss vs Southampton Solent 1s (Cup).

Next week: Southampton Solent 1s Away.

Ryane Tulley (3s Captain)

Fourth Team

Result: 1-2 Win vs USW 2s (Cup).

‘The 4s went away to USW 2s in the second round of the cup having beaten Cardiff 1s in the last round. We went in huge underdogs having lost 4-1 to them in the league the previous weak and with only 1 sub due to it being reading week. We dominated possession in the 1st half and Harry Robinson won it off their defender and slotted home to go 1-0 up. We continued to play well and Sage linked up with Nik muller on the right before crossing it to hemmings who scored after a number of deflections. 2-0. In the second half they started strongly and scored a well worked goal to make it 2-1. We then dug very deep, the wingers tucking in and everyone scrapping to win any 50:50 challenge. We managed to hold on. Henry Newman played unbelievably well in his first game for the 4s and organising from the back (he also gave me his boots). But man of the match goes to Harry robinson for his best display of the season, bullying their defenders all day and working hard for 90 minutes. The cup run continues, up the 4s’.

Next week: Cardiff 3s Away.

Sean Sage and Louie Hemmings (4s Captain)

Fifth Team

Result: 0-3 Loss vs Cardiff Met 4s (Cup).

Next week: Cardiff 4s Away.
