The first ever UBAFC Alumni Dinner took place on the September 28th 2019 at the Indian Orchard, North Finchley. This was an incredibly successful evening in which 64 member attended across 7 years of the clubs history. This evening started off in a sophisticated manner with old friends catching up but quickly reverted back to the good old days with chants flying and pints flowing.
‘After a message from Alan Tyers explaining the financial trouble the Club were in, arranging an Alumni curry night was the least we could do. With just a few weeks’ notice we had 64 attendees and next time we will be aiming for many more. Over £2,200 was raised and it would have been higher had we not drank the restaurant dry so early. Let’s hope it keeps that red flagging fly high for the next generation of UBAFC players’.Matt Shelly (Former Club Captain)
‘The Alumni dinner was a huge success on so many levels. It was great to meet up with so many ex club captains, ex players and Chiangy. The venue and the food were splendid and the singing was electrifying. The event generated over £2000 and will go a long way to overcome the financial difficulties of the club. A huge thank you to all who supported the club and a special thank you to Shelley who -I felt was in great shape- for organising the whole thing. I hope that this is the start of a long and much closer link with the alumni. We look forward to the game coming up at the Dingle later this month and to see who still has the old magic in their feet’.Alan Tyers (1s Manager)
‘UBAFC’s first alumni dinner was an overwhelming success, an evening of reminiscence and nostalgia with members from a spread of years coming togther in celebration of the club they love. A delicious curry was provided by the Indian Orchid thanks to Jay Patel, whilst stories and speeches were in full sway and the boys even found time for a game of Bradford at the end. All in all it was an excellent evening for the club that brought it over £2000. A special that is to the Indian Orchid for hosting, Matt Shelley for being a huge driver in organising it and Alan Tyers for being our guest of honour. We are planning to do another one come the end of the season so keep an eye out on the website and social media. We hope to see as many of you there as possible’.Joe Williams (Club Captain 2019/20)
The club would like to say a huge thank you to Matt Shelly for organising the evening, Jay Patel for allowing us to use his venue and providing us top quality food and Alan Tyers. Most of the work he does goes unnoticed from year to year and we would most certainly not be here without his hard-work and commitment. Lastly we would like to thank all the alumni that attended this evening and supported the club through donations, it has gone a long way to helping the club to improve its financial situation. We hope this as a benchmark too reconnect with all of our alumni for more events this year and for years to come.
