BUCS Match Day 1

First Team

Result: 0-4 win vs Bournemouth 1s.

The first team travelled away to Bournemouth in a difficult opening BUCS fixture. The match began evenly and William Nibbs set the precedent early on with some big tackles – nobody was getting past him at left back. We had the better chances and eventually a shot by Jack Haire forced a save by their keeper which fell to the feet of Femiola who squared it to Pagano to see us go 1-0 up. After half time we continued to apply the pressure, which showed in a horrendous challenge by their centre back who was subsequently shown a red card. The game now opened up with Pagano returning the favour to Femiola who slotted home for our second. Robbie Atkinson replaced Pagano who made a very big impact, providing an assist to Gale who headed home from 12 yards out. Selwood replaced a cautioned Anderson and linked up well with the likes of Haire and Hinks. He also got on the scoresheet – jumping as high as his little legs would allow him to knock in a header from 2 yards out. Man of the match was Nibbs who was a rock at the back before going off injured after a bad challenge. Overall, a very good day at the office for Bristol 1s!

Second Team

Result: 1-4 loss vs Gloucester 1s.

Alan Harlington (Manager)

Third Team

Result: 2-2 draw vs Exeter 2s.

A wet rainy day on a low quality bobbly pitch that screamed out for a pin and roll. We go in half time at 0-0, start the second half as the better team only to be suckerpunched by a class individual goal and freak penalty (hardless headloss). Finn Wallace-Abbott a fresher center back screams at me that he can do a job in CM , the gaffer trusts him and finn repays his faith with 2 headers to get Bristols first point on the league table.

Ryane Tulley (3s Captain)

Fourth Team

Result: 0-3 loss vs Cardiff Met 3s.

Sean Sage and Louie Hemmings (4s Captain)

Fifth Team

Result: 2-5 loss vs USW 3s.

Giuseppe Lombardelli (5s Captain)

Sixth Team

Result: 0-2 win vs Cardiff 6s.

The 6s officially kicked off their season with a tough away fixture against Cardiff Uni 6s. Bristol completely outplayed their opponents, yet the Cardiff goal lived a charmed life; in spite of hitting the woodwork more than 6 times, the game was still goalless heading into the 70th minute. Finally, Bristol were rewarded for their dominance, Rohan squaring it to Alfie to open the scoring and Liam Sweeney then grabbing a quick-fire second. The 2-0 score line does not reflect how convincing Bristol were in what was an exceptional team performance. A number of quality individual performances also stood out; Alfie dictating the tempo of the game as a regista and Tom Nunez picking up MOTM for a tenacious, aggressive showing in CM being a few examples. It is onwards and upwards for the 6s with 3pts on the board in the league and a successive win keeping morale sky high in the squad.
